Jill Kramer

Counsellor (Dip.Coun.Comm)(SACAP)

Every hardship in life is a journey of opportunity and growth

Welcome

I have been in private practice since 2002, working with individuals, couples, and families in a holistic and integrated way, with a particular focus on the change and healing process. I find this work to be privileged and rewarding.

When I started my practice, I had a deep interest and passion for the area of addiction. I worked intensely around the effects that addiction has on relationships, and how critical it is to work with boundaries.

My many years of working in addiction both in therapy and in running aftercare family therapy groups, laid the foundation for me to branch out into all areas of counselling and I now maintain a practice working in both general and specialised areas.

Areas of work

Couples

Working with couples – together or separately – across the range of issues that affect relationships.

Eating disorders

Working through eating disorders with those experiencing them directly, or their families.

Co-dependency

Dealing with co-dependency and boundaries within specific relationships or in life more generally.

Approach

After graduating from the South African College of Applied Psychology in 2002, I opened my private practice, consulting in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town.

When I first opened my practice I had a particular interest in addiction and co-dependency. I did family counselling for Stepping Stones Addiction Clinic and ran their family aftercare therapy groups for nine years, as well as similar groups at Hope House Secondary Care and Harmony Secondary Care. With the many years spent in a facilitation role of therapy groups, I can work with both individuals and families.

Over the past two decades, I have developed a broad approach based on openness, kindness, and creating a safe environment in which we can begin a process of healing and change.

Through this approach, I work with people on a range of issues – from day-to-day challenges and change, to the impacts of major life events and illnesses.
